Hiring Cybersecurity professionals is becoming increasingly important for organizations, particularly in sectors such as the Information Technology one. The rise in cyberthreats has made the protection of data and systems an absolute priority to ensure the integrity and continuity of business in these areas. In this context, it is essential to invest in hiring qualified Cybersecurity specialists to strengthen the security of organizations and to mitigate the risks associated with the ever-growing digital threats.

According to the data from the report “Employment Outlook Survey” from ManpowerGroup, Portugal is the country with the fastest-growing hiring intentions in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa). Portuguese employers expect an increase of more than 27% compared to the last quarter, and 41% of employers expect to expand their teams in the quarter ahead.

The Information Technology sector is the one with the strongest hiring intentions in Portugal, with a net job creation projection of over 44%. Currently, 87% of Portuguese IT companies report difficulties in recruiting, which compared to the global situation where technology companies face a talent shortage of 78%, indicates that the difficulties faced by the Portuguese technology sector are even higher.

Still concerning the IT sector, according to the study “Tech Talent Outlook” from ManpowerGroup, 52% of employers cite cybersecurity as a top hiring need. AI and Machine Learning skills stand at 34%, while Technical Support stands at 31%. These areas are seen as priorities by companies looking to strengthen digital security, drive technological innovation, and ensure efficient technical support. The demand for Cybersecurity professionals, AI and Machine Learning specialists, and Technical Support professionals reflects the importance of highly skilled talent to address technological challenges and ensure business success in the aforementioned areas.

When it comes to the strategies adopted by companies to address the current demand for technology skills, the main ones are training professionals and upskilling their existing skills, and hiring new employees with skills that the organization lacks. Companies recognize the importance of investing in their employees by providing them with the training and upskilling opportunities they need to adapt to the ever-evolving technology needs; these strategies aim to ensure that companies are well-positioned to meet technological challenges and capitalize on emerging market opportunities.
